Delirium Management Advice for older patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19
Older people are at particular risks of delirium, and delirium may be one of the symptoms of COVID-19. Hyperactive delirium may present particular challenges in the context of the COVID crisis. Standard non-pharmacological measures may not be possible in isolation environments. Isolation environments and PPE may worse symptoms of delirium. Risk of Harm to others may exceed risks to individuals and earlier use of pharmacological measures may be necessary. This papers includes guidance on prevention, detection, management and the use of sedating medication for severe agitation in patients with delirium and COVID-19.
