272 Peripheral Venous Cannulation Pre-Training Assessment
Aim
The individual can identify the correct patient, gain consent and safely insert the appropriate cannula into a peripheral vein.
Objectives
The individual will:
- Identify the relevant anatomy and physiology
- Demonstrate knowledge of the criteria for choosing both the vein and device to use
- Be aware of the potential problems which may be encountered, how to prevent them and necessary interventions
- Understand the health and safety/risk management of the procedure, as well as the correct disposal of equipment
