The Role of Culture in Mental Health- MHASE Conference (video)

Rohan will be talking about the role of culture in mental health, how the provision of equitable and effective mental health care for all requires an understanding of cultural factors and influences. He will talk about his own story as a Caribbean man with Bipolar, discussing cultural stigma, fear of vulnerability, lack of community support and relatable resources.

About Rohan

Rohan is a highly visible campaigner and speaker around mental health, with a particular focus on suicide awareness and prevention. He is a Trustee of Mind, the mental health charity, and an HR and People Development leader with a background of leading organisations through significant global scaling and change. His lived experience of mental ill health drives his commitment to change. He credits the North West Ambulance Service with saving his life and Mind with giving him hope, purpose and dignity after the impact of Bipolar Disorder had led to homelessness and multiple suicide attempts, the last of which was in 2006. He was also a Mind Media Award winner in 2017 for his part in the documentary, 'Me and My Mental Illness'. Rohan is fiercely committed to removing all barriers to mental health dialogue and support, especially in underrepresented and racialised communities.
