Acute Behavioural Disturbances (ABD

Not yet rated

Acute behavioural disturbance (ABD) is a medical emergency and can lead to sudden cardiac arrest and death. Out of hospital, the condition is identified through a recognition of the symptoms, rather than a specific test or assessment. Patients are often in the care of the police when the ambulance is called due to their aggressive behaviour; at times they may be restrained and at risk of position asphyxia. It is vital that clinicians are able to recognise the symptoms and manage ABD patients rapidly to reduce the risk of death.
