STAR TECHNIQUE OVERVIEW
Competency based interview questions are often used as part of formal recruitment and interview processes, whether they are labelled as such or not. Interviewers are looking for evidence and examples of skills and behaviours you have demonstrated in the past.
Often when candidates are nervous in an interview, they can have a tendency to waffle, or not provide the evidence the interviewer is looking for in their example.
This guide will outline the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) technique for answering competency-based interview questions.
The STAR technique can help you to structure your examples and answer competency interview questions in a systematic way.
