Martha's Rule
Certificate available: complete this course to be awarded a certificate
This elearning session raises awareness of Martha's rule, a patient safety initiative designed to ensure that concerns about acute deterioration are heard and acted upon promptly. It explains the three components of the rule, the role of patients, families and carers in recognising early signs of deterioration, and how staff can escalate concerns outside usual channels. Targeted at all healthcare staff including nurses, clinicians, allied health professionals and support workers, the session aims to strengthen collaborative decision-making, promote psychological safety, and empower both patients and staff to advocate for timely care.
