Delivery of Holistic and Inclusive Care to People Seeking Asylum and Refugees
This short course, developed by the Respond Integrated Refugee Health service at UCLH, is for all staff (clinical or non-clinical) working in a healthcare setting who encounter people seeking asylum and refugees. We will explore the diverse characteristics of this population, their legal rights to access healthcare in the UK and some of the issues they may face. We will cover the interplay between migration and health outcomes helping learners identify and respond to the physical, mental, and social healthcare needs of people seeking asylum and refugees. We will explore the barriers they may face in accessing services and the relevance for health systems. The course provides practical guidance and supports the application of trauma-informed care and culturally sensitive approaches to deliver inclusive, holistic and effective healthcare.
The course takes approximately45 minutesand it is made up of 5 sections. It includes activities and practice questions with a short assessment with a pass mark of 80%. It also includes captions and accessibility settings.
