Mouth care for people with limited mouth opening trismus
For us to deliver good mouth care relies on the person being able to open their mouth, allowing us to see better and clean their mouth thoroughly.
Some people really struggle to open their mouth, either fully or at all, often due to a condition called Trismus.
Caring for them will take more time and we may have to be content with a less than ideal outcome.
Trismus can usually be improved by gentle exercises but we will need to be prepared to try other ways to clean their mouth.
