Skin Histology: Blood Vessel vs Gland vs Artifact

Not yet rated

This is an awesome trick taught to me by one of my greatest pathology mentors, Dr. Jae Ro. He is the biggest reason I became a pathology educator, so if you like my videos, you have Dr. Ro to thank for them! White/empty space on tissue sections usually can be boiled down into 1 of 3 things:

  1. vessels (endothelial lining),
  2. glands/cysts (epithelial lining), or
  3. artifacts (no cells lining the space).

This is one of the many many "triads" that Dr. Ro uses to teach his students, residents, and fellows
