Learning Aims
This session aims to give the principles and practice of vascular access device (VAD) management including;
- Understand the principles of safe delivery of intravenous therapy
- Understand the types of vascular access devices available
- Care and maintenance of vascular access devices, including:
- Peripheral intravenous cannula
- Midline
- Central venous access devices (non-tunneled)
- Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC)
- Tunneled lines (Hickman)
- Totally implantable (Port-a-cath)
- Understand the principles of safe delivery of parenteral nutrition
- How to recognise VAD complications and their management
