The purpose of this e-patient scenario is to help enhance your differential diagnosis and clinical reasoning skills. You will be presented with a clinical scenario based on a new referral to orthoptics from the health visitor. You should work through this scenario in the order presented to formulate a diagnosis and consider the available management options.

Learning Aims:

  • To consider the referral information and urgency/type of appointment required
  • Work through the possible differential diagnoses and consider why this is important
  • Suggest appropriate management options for this type of strabismus based on the evidence and this patient’s presentation
  • Raise awareness of how this type of strabismus could present again in later life
