About the NETS

The NETS is the only national survey open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students and trainees undertaking a practice placement or training post in healthcare as part of their education and training programme. The survey gathers opinions from students and trainees about their time working and training in practice placements and training posts, asking them to provide feedback on what worked well and what they think could be improved.

New for 2023

In line with the publication of the sexual safety charter and NHS Staff Survey, a new question has been added to the survey which asks all learners whether they have experienced unwanted, harmful and/or inappropriate sexual behaviours during their placement and/or training post. In 2022 we introduced professional branching questions; these continue to be included. We have included a new question, under our EDI demographic data, to ask learners about their marital status. This is in line with Office for National Statistics guidance. To inform our work toeliminate inequalities and ensurethat all individuals are supported to learn and train in safe and inclusive learning environments, we introduced a new question in 2022 asking our learners ‘Have you experienced discrimination by patients?’ This year, we have expanded this question to also ask ‘Have you experienced discrimination by staff?’
