2. AHP Preceptorship Workforce Transitions
Preceptorship has traditionally focused on the transition from student to registrant and employee within the healthcare sector. However, our work has highlighted the transferability of preceptorship to other workforce transitions. These include:
• returning to work after a period of extended leave,
• joining the workforce as an international registrant,
• or starting work in new roles and / or settings.
These additional workforce transitions are explicitly included in Health and Care Professions Council Principles for Preceptorship. The different workforce transitional challenges, and how AHP preceptorship can support these, are described in this document.
