Make your own AFB & Gram stain control blocks
This method can be used to make many control blocks for free (or almost free) using broth culture of mycobacteria (or gram negative rods and gram positive cocci bacteria), agar, and a segment of umbilical cord. The AFB tissue blocks can be used for control tissue for Kinyoun AFB stain, Fite-Faraco AFB stain, Auramine Rhodamine AFB stain. The Gram stain control blocks can be used for any variation of Gram stain.
