Allied Health Professions (AHP) Preceptorship Standards and Framework

Not yet rated

AHP Preceptorship is a structured support program designed for Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) during key career transitions, such as entering the workforce, returning after a break, moving to a new role or organization, or working in the UK for the first time. Its purpose is to help AHPs develop confidence, apply their knowledge, and act as autonomous practitioners.

Preceptorship provides tailored support through a combination of uni-professional and multi-professional development opportunities, guided by an experienced professional. It is distinct from workplace induction, probation, mandatory training, clinical supervision, and performance management. Rather, it is a supportive intervention that focuses on individual needs, personal career development, and professional growth.

The benefits of preceptorship are significant:

  • For the individual: It improves confidence and supports successful integration into the workforce.
  • For the organization: It enhances recruitment and retention, fosters a culture of patient safety, and strengthens organizational support.
  • For the system: It contributes to workforce sustainability by ensuring smoother transitions for AHPs.
