Community-based rehabilitation: Physical activity for people with long-term conditions
Developing and retaining the advanced practice workforce is a top priority for the NHS. Advanced practitioners are pivotal in addressing both immediate and long-term workforce challenges, as highlighted in the NHS Long-Term Plan. Similarly, the NHS People Plan emphasizes the importance of scaling up advanced-level roles and care models to meet evolving service demands.
NHS England (formerly Health Education England) is at the forefront of this initiative, collaborating across the health and care system to enhance advanced practice capability and capacity. This includes the development of area-specific capabilities, which are integrated into Centre-accredited advanced practice Master’s degrees or available to practitioners looking to expand on their prior learning to align with workforce and service delivery needs.
These area-specific capability specifications define the advanced skills and expertise required to deliver safe and effective care within specific practice areas. By fostering career progression in clinical roles, they not only support the retention of experienced practitioners but also drive workforce transformation, ensuring services continue to deliver meaningful benefits to patients and the public.
