Acute medicine
The health and care systems are evolving rapidly to deliver innovative models of care that address the growing and changing needs of individuals, families, and communities. As part of this transformation, education and training for healthcare professionals have adapted to meet these demands, while new specialist roles, such as advanced practitioners, have emerged to enhance patient care.
The NHS Multi-Professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice in England (2017) introduced a groundbreaking, unified approach to developing ACP roles. For the first time, it established a clear definition of advanced clinical practice across all health and care professions, emphasizing the skills, knowledge, and behaviors required to navigate complex clinical decision-making with confidence and precision.
This curriculum framework provides a comprehensive guide to the purpose, content, and structure of training and assessment for advanced practitioners specialising in acute medicine, ensuring a consistent standard of excellence, safety, and effectiveness in practice.
