Fibromyalgia
Certificate available: complete this course to be awarded a certificate
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition marked by widespread pain, fatigue, sleep issues, cognitive difficulties ("brain fog"), and psychological distress. It can be diagnosed by general practitioners or physiotherapists using the ACR 2016 criteria, which assess pain, symptom severity, and duration. The exact cause is unknown but may involve central nervous system sensitization, small fiber neuropathy, genetics, and trauma. Management includes a personalized approach with activity, psychological therapy, and medications like antidepressants, while NSAIDs and other treatments are usually not recommended. Patient education and addressing misconceptions are crucial for better care outcomes.
