Delivering the Diabetes Care Processes - Core - CDEP
Attending annual health checks is essential to keep people with all types of diabetes well and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications. These health checks can be done by anyone trained to provide them. The results help ensure people get the appropriate support to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes-related complications. BEFORE starting this topic, you might like to watch this short 2-minute animation as a good introduction. The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends that 9 care processes are undertaken as part of a diabetes health check: - Weight and height measurements to calculate body mass index (BMI) as well as waist circumference if appropriate. - Blood pressure measurement - Blood tests to check HbA1c, cholesterol and creatinine levels - Urinary albumin test - Foot check - Smoking status check - Eye (retinal) screening This topic is designed to introduce you to these care processes, why and how they are done, what the results mean as well as how to refer people fro further support depending on the results. TOPIC TIPS... You do not have to complete the topic in one go... CDEP is designed to be done in 'bite-sized chunks' fitting into your busy life! This topic generally takes around 45 minutes to complete depending on your chosen CDEP level - although this may differ from person to person. There are a number of sections (competencies) within this topic, each with its own set of resources that may be useful to review should you require further support.
