Prosthetics and Orthotics- Supporting the Growth of Apprenticeships Within the Profession
Session Aims:
1. Build understanding of the apprenticeship routes
Give a clear overview of the Level 3 and Level 6 apprenticeship pathways. Explain what each route involves, who they suit, and how they support workforce growth in prosthetics and orthotics.
2. Stimulate employer demand
Show how these apprenticeships help services develop a skilled workforce, including financial support available to employers. Highlight practical benefits, such as growing talent, improving retention and supporting future service models.
3. Hear directly from the education sector
The University of Derby will outline how the programmes work, the support learners receive, and how employers and universities can work together to make apprenticeships successful.
4. Bring in the professional voice
BAPO will set out the profession’s view on why these apprenticeship routes matter and how they support standards, career progression and long‑term workforce sustainability. They will also include the resources available for Practice Educators
5. Share lived experience from learners and educators
Offer honest reflections from current apprentices, supervisors and educators. Let people hear what the learning journey feels like, what works well, and how services have introduced apprenticeships in practice.
6. Support practical next steps
Provide attendees with the information and tools they need to take action.
