Mouth care equipment 3: Making toothbrushes easier to hold
Early in our development of Mouth Care Matters, we recognised that knowing the theory of delivering mouth care just wasn’t enough, without having the correct equipment available to use. With such a variety of products to choose from, when we look after our own mouth, it is difficult to know that we are making the correct choice. When we are caring for someone else, deciding what products either to buy, or to order can be really confusing.
This week, we sit around a table, with a dentist, two speech and language therapists and a dental hygienists, all experts in delivering mouth care. We watch and listen to a discussion of a wide range of equipment that they consider. It is a really valuable opportunity to learn about this important subject.
During the week, we will also specifically learn about dry mouth and about lips and tongues and the main conditions that affect them. These are the first parts of the mouth we see, areas where people can really suffer and by knowing what to do to help, we can make a real improvement to their health.
