ESTH Armed Forces Community Awareness Training

We want all our patients to have the best possible outcome, and if we know the patient has served, or has a family member who has served/is serving this may help us to treat the patient and potentially support the family if needed.

The conditions that the patient has may have an impact on their family. A family member could also be a carer for them and may not recognise themselves as a carer or be aware of the support available to them.

There are such a wide range of organisations that can help the armed forces community. We just need to help identify them, asking the appropriate question, record that information on their patient record and then where appropriate provide the support they need whilst in our care or connect them with the right external organisations. This support could be anything from purchasing a washing machine, providing bereavement counselling for adults and children or putting them in touch with organisations who run social activities.
