Learning Objectives
- Have a broad understanding of what a learning disability is and is not
- Have a broad understanding of what autism is
- Be able to identify the factors prevalent in health care settings that negatively impact health outcomes for people with learning disabilities and or autism
- Understand what reasonable adjustments are and how to put them in place in practice
- Understand the key principles of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and mental capacity assessment
- Understand what Diagnostic Overshadowing is and how to avoid it
- Be able to describe different communication methods and how they are used in practice
- Understand what a hospital traffic light passport is and how to use it
- Understand when to use the Learning Disability and Autism care plan
- Know how to contact the Learning Disability and Autism team and other specialist support services
