Course Details:

Audience:Clinical staff (Paediatric/Neonatal nurses please refer to your Practice Based Educators for training and assessment)

Duration: 30 minutes

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify patients who are suitable/unsuitable for NG tube placement
  • Identify possible complications that can arise from misplaced NG tubes
  • Recognise which patients are at greater risk of tube misplacement
  • Recognise what type and size of NG tube should be used
  • State the correct procedures used to confirm positioning of the NG tube
  • Interpret safe pH levels and recognise what can influence them
  • Complete associated NCA documentation
  • Report misplaced NG tube incidents, following correct NCA processes
