Aim

The individual can identify the correct patient, gain consent and safely insert the appropriate cannula into a peripheral vein.

Objectives

The individual will:

  • Identify the relevant anatomy and physiology
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the criteria for choosing both the vein and device to use
  • Be aware of the potential problems which may be encountered, how to prevent them and necessary interventions
  • Understand the health and safety/risk management of the procedure, as well as the correct disposal of equipment
