Blood Sugar Play and Q&A- MHASE Conference (video)
A paramedic is called to a young female student collapsed in a shared house. The student is reluctant to be examined although clearly unwell. This play aims to illustrate why the choice to accept treatment is so difficult for someone with an eating disorder even when they are seriously ill.
About Emma
Emma O’Brien has been a practicing social worker since 2012 working in mental health, homelessness and drug and alcohol services. She was diagnosed with anorexia and OCD at 16 and since then has been involved with various charities and awareness campaigns. In 2017 whilst receiving treatment for her eating disorder Emma graduated with distinction from the MA in Creative Writing at Newcastle University. Her first play, Measured, which looked at the impact of eating disorders on relationships ran at the Hope Theatre in London in March 2022 to a warm response from eating disorders activists and people with experience of the condition.
