Expected Learning Outcomes
- Know what is meant by the term dementia and delirium.
- Be aware of the prevalence of dementia in the UK and the impact on the individual, families and society.
- Understand why its important to be aware of dementia and improve earlier diagnosis.
- Be aware of the signs of dementia and how the signs may be associated with other underlying medical conditions to include delirium.
- Know the advice and actions individuals can take to reduce their risk of developing a dementia or delay onset and progression.
- Know how to effectively communicate with a person with dementia
- Understand reasons why a person with dementia may exhibit signs of distress and how this could be the person trying to communicate an unmet need.
- Know how to signpost individuals, families and carers to dementia advice, support and information.
- Understand the importance of recognising a person with Dementia as a unique individual.
