When a family member sustains a spinal cord injury (SCI), the news can shock their loved ones, bringing feelings of distress, helplessness and a general sense of sadness. Suddenly having a family member who has sustained a SCI can cause a wide range of emotions, including anxiety about the future, the extent of the relative’s disability and how the family will manage.
