This course looks at the role of ethics and values in governance. It also examines the key features of governance and explores what a board contributes to this. The four characteristics of effective board governance are explored: collective decision-making, constructive challenge, board culture and ‘trust but verify’. The course goes on to look at the role of regulators and illustrate the effect of lessons learned from poor governance elsewhere on practice in the NHS.
