The Use of in situ Simulation in Healthcare Education: Current Perspectives
Aim: Understand the current themes, perspectives, and approaches to in situ simulation training across medical and healthcare education.
Method: 30 articles met the inclusion criteria and were included. A narrative synthesis and extracted data were carried out on the clinical setting, the simulation purpose, design, evaluation method and impact.
Findings: In situ simulation has proved helpful in various specialties for skills improvement and better team development, with the flexibility to meet local and organisational needs and priorities.
Contribution: The literature search included studies describing and evaluating in situ simulations with an educational component. In situ simulation positively impacted clinical staff education, leading to better clinical practice and increased patient safety.
