Simulated Patients’ Beliefs Towards Mental Illness (Sarikoc et al., 2022)

Aims: To examine British and Turkish simulated patients’ (SPs) beliefs regarding mental illness and the individual differences that influence them.

Method: The beliefs towards mental illness scale was administered to 43 simulated patients.

Findings: The study revealed that SPs generally held very low beliefs of stigma towards mental illness, suggesting reduced stigma levels among this group.

Contributions: The research highlights the importance of considering the impact of roleplay and patient perspective simulations alongside interactions with SPs in course development. Furthermore, it facilitates future research on the use of Virtual Reality simulations.
