e-learning for support staff within a residential special education setting

This e-learning will enable care and support staff who tend to children and young people in special education settings the knowledgde, skills and guidance towards tools that will make mouth care for this group of individuals a manageable and realistic prospect. It will discuss managing resistant behaviours, specialised tools to help those with sensory needs, how to recognise what a 'normal' or unhealthy mouth looks like, provide dietary advice and a video on 'how to complete a mouth check.' Upon completion of this e-learning, school staff should feel empowered to provide daily mouth care for their children and young people, and who to ask for futher advice and guidance if needed. It will allow Mini MCM SES to be embedded as part of training for all school and care staff starting within the setting, and should be updated as a knowledge check on an annual basis. It also covers how to complete a remote oral health check-in; a means by which a member of the oral health care team can virtually assess the needs of a child or young person within a SES.
