This course aims to equip you with basic improvement knowledge, tools and practical techniques to help you identify areas of improvement and show how to apply this knowledge to start your improvement journey.

The course will explain what we mean when we talk about improvement, touching upon some of the key concepts, ideas and thought processes that are behind an improvement approach and identify where you can find more information to progress your improvement knowledge further.

It will also introduce you to NHS IMPACT and its five components – a shared approach that is helping to enable an improvement capability across the NHS using continuous improvement as the 'go to' method for tackling clinical, operational, and financial challenges.

Improvement can involve saving time, saving money or being more efficient. It can also be about simplifying a task, making the experience of something more positive or improving productivity. With an improvement mindset approach, the right methods and tools, and working together with people using services based on what matters, we can improve the quality of care and health outcomes.

By identifying improvement opportunities, we can help tackle the problems we face in our everyday lives as healthcare staff in NHS England. There are often many demands on our roles and whilst our work can be challenging, it is critical that we can manage change and lookto maximise improvement opportunities.
