This course reviews the common side effects of cancer treatments and aims to help in the identification and management of some specific long-term effects, including peripheral neuropathy and lymphoedema. It also provides information on how to support optimal bone and cardiovascular health after treatment for cancer. The course utilises patient cases, knowledge checks, interactive elements, and discussions with specialists to help facilitate learning.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Increase awareness of common treatments and their short- and long-term side effects
  2. Explore support available to help patients manage their side effects
  3. Improve confidence in decision-making when assessing and managing patients with treatment-related toxicity
  4. Understand what peripheral neuropathy and lymphoedema are and why they occur
  5. Explore how peripheral neuropathy and lymphoedema present and are experienced by patients
  6. Explore how peripheral neuropathy and lymphoedema can be managed in primary care
  7. Understand the risk factors for cardiac and bone health
  8. Explore the symptoms of cardiovascular disease and bone problems for people with cancer
  9. Explore how both cardiac and bone health can be managed in primary care, including considerations for high risk or symptomatic patients
