Non Specific Symptoms

This course aims to support clinical decision-making with regards to identifying patients in primary care with concerning symptoms, or symptom combinations, which may be indicative of cancer, and increase awareness and understanding of Non-Specific Symptom (NSS) pathways. It covers symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, persistent pain, nausea, appetite loss and fatigue, and utilises patient cases, interactive elements, knowledge checks and discussions with specialists to help facilitate learning.

On completion of this course you will have:

  1. Increased confidence in recognising the symptoms of cancer which might be appropriate for referral through a non-specific symptom pathway
  2. Increased confidence in carrying out relevant investigations to exclude other causes of symptoms
  3. Improved confidence in making decisions about when to use a site specific pathway and when to use the non-specific symptom pathways
  4. Developed an awareness of appropriate safety netting for patients with persistent symptoms
  5. Explored how to talk honestly about referral with patients and how to support them through the process
