Aspects of identity can give individuals and groups advantages and disadvantages in society. Crucially, this extends to health. Our identity affects how healthy we are, how we live and for how long. Privilege is not really about what you have, it is about what you don’t have. It is about theabsence of disadvantages. For those who hold it, privilege often goes unnoticed. Some people have more power than others, and some aspects of identity can give us power or advantage, while others might take this away, or disadvantage us.
