Health and care systems are evolving rapidly to deliver innovative care models that address the growing and changing needs of individuals, families, and communities. Alongside these developments, education and training for traditional clinical and professional roles have adapted, paving the way for new specialist roles such as Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs).

The NHS Multi-Professional Framework (MPF) for advanced clinical practice in England, developed by Health Education England in partnership with NHS Improvement and NHS England, introduces a unified approach to the development of advanced practiceroles. For the first time, it establishes a clear definition of advanced clinical practice across all health and care professions, emphasizing the skills, knowledge, and behaviors required to operate effectively in complex and uncertain clinical settings.

This framework also provides a curriculum specifically designed for advanced practitionerss working with older people, outlining the purpose, learning content, and structure of training and assessment. By setting these standards, the framework ensures advanced practitioners are equipped to deliver high-quality, safe, and effective care tailored to the unique needs of older populations.
