Advanced Practice Area-Specific Capabilities
Capability and curriculum frameworks for advanced practice within specific areas of care are designed to support transferable, standardized, and sustainable multi-professional education and training. These frameworks, endorsed by the Centre for Advancing Practice, are referred to as area-specific capability frameworks.
Each framework aligns directly with the generic capabilities outlined in theMulti-Professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice in England (2017). Delivered by higher education institutions in collaboration with service providers, these frameworks form an integral part of advanced practice education.
Purpose and Impact of Area-Specific Capability Frameworks
Area-specific capability frameworks aim to:
- Enhance advanced practice capability and capacity in response to workforce demands.
- Accelerate workforce transformation by defining standardized, nationally transferable training routes.
- Support workforce deployment and mobility.
- Define the advanced capabilities required to meet high-priority needs and deliver services within evolving models of care.
These frameworks are designed to be integrated into Centre-accredited advanced practice MSc programs or offered as standalone credentials for practitioners who have already completed an advanced practice MSc or the Centre’s ePortfolio (supported) route.
Practitioners must demonstrate their fulfillment of the framework’s capabilities through evidence that integrates academic and workplace-based learning. This ensures alignment with level 7 learning requirements and the demands of advanced practice.
