01 - Coronary Arteries
The coronary arteries originate from the root of the aorta and travel along the grooves of the myocardium. There are two primary coronary arteries:
The right coronary artery, which travels between the right atrium and right ventricle along the right atrioventricular groove. It commonly sends branches along the posterior interventricular sulcus.
The left coronary artery, which sends branches that wrap around the left ventricle along the left atrioventricular groove and the anterior interventricular sulcus.
Together, both coronary arteries encircle the heart like a crown. In this specimen, they are demonstrated without the covering of epicardial fat for better visualisation, though, in situ, they are typically embedded within fatty tissue.
