NHSE Simulation and Immersive Learning Fellowship: A summary of activities
Extract:
Background
•‘Practical wisdom’ = ‘Phronesis’. Rooted in Aristotelian virtue ethics and character. The process by which good character is worked out into good action. Of increasingly recognised importance in the medical literature.
•May help address challenges in the NHS: applying evidence from groups to an individual, managing complexity and uncertainty, managing the system, addressing workforce discontent.
•SBE is well established with a good evidence base for achieving technical and non-technical outcomes.
•A lack of concrete pedagogies for nurturing phronesis, but SBE seems ideal - how can we use SBE to nurture professional character?
Methods
Purposive sampling of experienced simulation faculty selected from respondents to an online survey followed by online interviews, transcription and thematic analysis.
