This module gives guidance on how to overcome barriers to patient-led follow-up using motivational approaches. The main learning objectives for this module are:

  1. To understand the reasons for adopting a patient-centred motivational approach when promoting PETNECK2 app use and patient-led follow-up in regard to the ACT behaviours targeted.
  2. To be aware of the meaning and importance of self-efficacy and autonomous motivation.
  3. To understand how we can facilitate patients’ self-efficacy and identify relevant strategies for doing so.
  4. To understand the ‘building blocks’ for autonomous motivation and identify relevant strategies for doing so.
  5. To understand the implications of communication style to enhancing patients’ self efficacy and autonomous motivation.
  6. To become familiar with a strategy or technique for discovering patients’ enablers and barriers to self-efficacy and autonomous motivation.[
