How the psychological impact of a neonatal stay can be compounded by experiences of marginalisation

Not yet rated

Bliss and The Relational Practice have collaborated to create a series of short videos explaining the psychological impact of neonatal care.

Dr. Davy Evans is a consultant clinical psychologist with The Relational Practice, providing training, consultation, supervision, and reflective practice across health and social care settings, in particular in the perinatal system. He also works in the NHS, and has spent the last seven years working and leading in neonatal and paediatric services.

It's essential to acknowledge that every baby and family come to the unit with a unique combination of needs and experiences, and for many the psychological impact of their neonatal experience will be shaped by the health inequalities they have, and will experience.

This video, which is aimed at supporting healthcare professionals, will look at how the relational and psychological impacts of a neonatal admission can be compounded by experiences of marginalisation and what can be done to support parents and healthcare professionals. It will look at some examples of marginalisationin neonatal care, what the impact of this is and some of the things that we can do that help address this issue.

Our thanks to Dr Davy Evans.
