As part of our ongoing commitment to patient safety and quality, we are introducing a training module on Local Safety Standards for Invasive Procedures (LocSSIPs).
Who must complete this training?
All staff who are directly or indirectly involved in the delivery, support, or oversight of invasive procedures are required to complete this module. This includes (but is not limited to):
- All medical staff ( permanent and resident doctors)
- Nursing staff
- Operating department practitioners
- Interventional radiology, endoscopy, cardiology and other procedural unit staff
- Allied health professionals involved in procedural care
- Any staff responsible for supporting or documenting safety processes around invasive procedures
Whyis this important?
LocSSIPs form a vital part of our organisational approach to reducing never events and ensuring consistency, clarity, and safety in all invasive procedures in all areas within our organisation. The training will reinforce our shared understanding of:
- The core principles and purpose of LoCSSIPs
- How safety checklists and procedural pauses should be delivered
- Roles and responsibilities within the procedural team
- Expected standards of communication, documentation, and escalation
By completing this training, you will support safer teamwork, improved compliance with national standards, and a consistently high-quality experience for patients.
