Living with consistently high glucose levels increases the risk of damage to the blood vessels and nerves in the body leading to heart (cardiovascular) disease. People living with all types of diabetes are able to reduce their risk of developing cardiovascular disease by managing their: Glucose levels, Blood fats / cholesterol levels and Blood pressure as well as Following a healthy diet, being physically active, avoiding too much alcohol and not smoking. People can also be prescribed medicines that can help reduce glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure levels, if necessary.
