Caring for the Diabetic Foot - Core - CDEP
According to Diabetes UK, 184 people per week in the UK undergo a diabetes-related limb amputation. People with amputations are 80% more likely to die in the next 5 years. With the correct daily foot care, regular foot screening and risk assessment, as well as rapid referral of any issues to multidisciplinary team (MDT) foot clinics, many of these amputations may be prevented or delayed. This short topic has been designed to support care home, hospice, mental health and prison staff support people with diabetes undertake a daily foot care routine and be vigilant for signs of a serious diabetic foot problem arising. TOPIC TIPS... You do not have to complete the topic in one go... CDEP is designed to be done in 'bite-sized chunks' fitting into your busy life! This topic generally takes around 45 minutes to complete depending on your chosen CDEP level - although this may differ from person to person. There are a number of sections (competencies) within this topic, each with its own set of resources that may be useful to review should you require further support. However, undertaking the section itself is part of the learning process and will confirm or improve your current level of knowledge around that specific section, so why not jump straight in and have a go...
