Not yet rated

Many oral diabetes medications have been around for years and are still a fundamental part of the mangement of type 2 diabetes such as metformin, sulphonylureas (SU) and pioglitazone. More recently there are in newer oral antihyperglycaemic agents such as the DPP4 inhibitors and SGLT2 inhibitors as well as a tablet form of a GLP-1. It is imperative that healthcare professionals keep up to date with which oral therapies are available and what their indications, side effects, timings and dosages are. TOPIC TIPS... You do not have to complete the topic in one go... CDEP is designed to be done in 'bite-sized chunks' fitting into your busy life! This topic generally takes around 45 minutes to 2 hours to complete depending on your chosen CDEP level - although this may differ from person to person. There are a number of sections (competencies) within this topic, each with its own set of resources that may be useful to review should you require further support. However, undertaking the section itself is part of the learning process and will confirm or improve your current level of knowledge around that specific section, so why not jump straight in and have a go... It may be helpful to have the BNF or a online prescribing portal open to help you when it comes to reviewing side effects, optimal timings and doses of the oral medications
