'Bliss: In conversation with...' podcast for health professionals
In this episode we take an in-depth look at the reality of how having a baby on a neonatal unit can impact the mental health of the parents. As part of a wider project highlighting and supporting families with their mental health whilst they are on the neonatal unit, this podcast is intentionally focusing on the experience of Black families in order to deepen our understanding of the inequities that they face. It offers support by recognising and validating feelings and encourages confidence for families who are feeling isolated in their neonatal experience.
Manuella and Kemi talk openly and candidly about their experiences on a neonatal unit. They offer insights to improve support and care for Black families and provide advice for parents going through the experience now. Neonatal experiences are hard in many different ways. We hope that hearing these stories helps anyone with an experience of neonatal care to feel heard, understood and supported.
Whatever your experience, you are vital for your baby’s care, and we are here for you.
Trigger Warning: this episode discusses themes of racism, trauma and baby loss.
The views and opinions expressed during this conversation are based on the participants' own reflections of their experiences of neonatal care.
