Case Study: Developing the JoinXR simulations for perinatal mental health
In this case study, an avatar based scenario is developed:
- To develop communication skills and contextually apply them to patients with perinatal mental health conditions.
- To expand learning opportunities to meet demand for specialist perinatal mental health care.
- To increase the number of pre-registration students choosing to take a perinatal mental healthcare learning experience.
We developed a series of extended reality (XR) learning experiences, to familiarise learners with perinatal mental health conditions, assessment and care. We used the JoinXR platform to enable learners to interact with digital avatars in real time, alongside instructors and observers, developing communication skills while encouraging interest in the specialty.
