Case Study: Developing Immersive Simulations in JoinXR for Primary care

Not yet rated

In this case study, an avatar based simulation is developed for primary care:

  • To expand opportunities for GP Registrars to experience complex, high‑stakes clinical encounters within a safe, structured environment.
  • To increase learner confidence in managing perinatal mental health concerns, end‑of‑life discussions, and red‑flag symptoms in primary care.
  • To create equitable access to consistent, repeatable experiences of clinical presentations that may be rare or unpredictable during traditional placements.

We developed a series of extended reality (XR) learning experiences, to familiarise primary care learners with 'rare, but important' presentations in general practice. We used the JoinXR platform to enable learners to interact with digital avatars in real time, alongside instructors and observers, developing communication and clinical skills.
