Effective therapeutic support for asylum seekers

Welcome to this course, developed by Solace: Surviving Exile and Persecution - a specialist mental health service for refugees and asylum seekers based in Yorkshire and the Humber.

This course is designed for people who organise or deliver mental health and wellbeing services to refugees and asylum seekers, whether in the NHS, local authority services, or the voluntary sector. It is the second in our series of three eLearning resources, which also includes a topic index for quick access to specific subject areas.

If you are new to this area of work, we recommend completing Course 1 - Understanding Refugee and Asylum Seeker Mental Health and Wellbeing - before starting this course.

How the course works

This course is made up of nine modules, varying in length. You can work through them at your own pace, in any order, returning to sections as needed. For a comprehensive experience, we recommend following the modules in sequence. Each is built around video content from practitioners, followed by written pages summarising the key points, and questions for reflection.

If you need guidance on a specific topic - such as stabilisation, working with interpreters, or sleep difficulties - you can go straight to Course 3, the topic index, instead. This brings together content from across both courses, organised by theme, with links to relevant sections.
